Attendance Policy
1. Nurses or techs will keep track of daily attendance. Attendance will be entered on the computer on a daily and weekly basis.
2. Nurses or techs will call on the first day of an absence unless the parent has contacted the school by way of telephone or not.
3. Absences are considered excused if:
- A student who is temporarily ill or injured or whose absence is approved by the administrator of the school of attendance on a prearranged basis. Prearranged absences shall be approved for appointments or circumstances of a serious nature only, which cannot be taken care of outside of school hours.
- A student who is absent for an extended period due to physical, mental, or emotional disability with a Dr.'s note.
- A student who is pursuing a work-study program under the supervision of the school.
- A student who is attending any school-sponsored activity or activities of an educational nature with advance approval by the administration.
4. Unexcused absences are defined as an absence that is not covered by one of the foregoing exceptions. Each unexcused absence shall be entered on the student's record. The parents or guardian of the student receiving an unexcused absence shall be notified orally or in writing by the district of the unexcused absence.
5. The maximum number of unexcused absences a student may incur before judicial proceeding are initiated to enforce compulsory attendance or 4 per month or 8 during any calendar year or school year.
6. Tardiness is defined as the appearance of a student without proper excuse after the scheduled time that a class begins. Because of the disruptive nature of tardiness and the detrimental effect upon the rights of the non-tardy student to uninterrupted learning, penalties shall beimposed for excessive tardiness. Parents or guardians shall be notifies of all penalties regarding tardiness, such as detention after school or missed recesses.
Recording Elementary Students' Attendance
Students will be recorded as being in attendance 1/2 day or full day
A.M. Tardy: up to 1/2 hour following the morning bell
P.M. Tardy: up to 1/2 hour following the end of lunch/recess period
Absence means any amount of time exceeding morning or afternoon tardiness
